Expanding St George’s role in the community

About the friends

Established in 2008 to maintain and renovate the fabric of the Church and to expand and strengthen its role in the community. The Committee is drawn from a mix of members of the congregation of St.George’s and from the surrounding community. Our current Patron is the Rt Revd Nicholas Chamberlain, Bishop of Grantham.

Our aim is to maintain and renovate the fabric of the Grade 1 listed church building, and to expand St George’s role in the community. Recently we gave a total of £33,000 for urgent repairs to the St George’s Church Tower

Support Us

Since establishing in 2008 the Friends has raised money towards two major projects:

  • the restoration of St. George’s West Window
  • Installation of new lighting in St George’s and cleaning of the interior

The Friends have contributed over £35,000 towards the costs to complete these projects but we need your help to continue the work we do supporting our Grade 1 listed church. Any donations are welecomed and appreciated

I’ve been a resident of Jesmond and a regular worshipper at St George’s for over 50 years!

Set in the center of the community the church is a wonderful focal point for the people of Jesmond and with the Green for everyone to enjoy, one of the few green spaces in the area. It can never be built on.

I am hugely fascinated by the history of St George’s and have done a vast amount of research into its origins. I enjoy taking tours round this Grade 1 listed building and revealing some of its treasures.
